Dr. Gay attributes much of his professional and personal success to his roots on Chicago’s Southside. His senior history teacher’s obvious love of history and dedication to his students led Dr. Gay to study both subjects at Northern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree. He went on to obtain a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University and an Educational Doctorate from Loyola University of Chicago. His 25-year educational career includes being a teacher and coach and ten years as Principal at De La Salle Institute. He joined District 230 as Assistant Principal at Andrew High School and then was Principal there for four years. In 2006, he was named Deputy Superintendent and the next year he became Superintendent.

Dr. Kim Dryier joined the District 230 administration in 2011. She has dedicated her career to serving the needs of students with an emphasis on the need for rigorous academics for all students. Before joining District 230, she was Director of Special Education for Community High School District 99 in Downers Grove and Indian Springs School District 109, and served as coordinator of diagnostic services, placement coordinator and school psychologist with the Lincoln Way Area Special Education Cooperative. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College, an M.A. in Psychology with a school psychology concentration from Governor’s State University, an M.S. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Loyola University.

Dr. Julia Wheaton’s professional pursuits have been shaped by growing up in a family of seven with a very strong commitment to education and the field of teaching. This foundation of support and encouragement guided Dr. Wheaton to study education at Illinois State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She continued her education by earning a Master of Science degree in School Psychology at Illinois State University. After working several years as a school psychologist, she completed coursework to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Governors State University. In 2006, Dr. Wheaton earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Loyola University Chicago. Prior to coming to District 230 in 2009, Dr. Wheaton served as the Director of Student Services for Mokena Public Schools and was Principal at Mokena Junior High School for six years. From 2009 until 2014, Dr. Wheaton served Carl Sandburg High School as the Associate Principal of Instruction, Associate Principal of Pupil Personnel Services, and Principal. In 2014, she was named Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

John Lavelle joined High School District 230 in July 2015 from Homer Community Consolidated School District 33C where he served as Assistant Superintendent for Business since 1996. Prior to that, he was Assistant Business Manager there.
Lavelle earned a Master’s degree in School Business Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing from Augustana College. In addition, he served as a Director on the Illinois Association of School Business Officials Board and Chairman of the Will County Business Officials organization.
